学术报告:Climate change is already impacting all ecosystems on Earth, particularly tropical ecosystems such as Amazonia and tropical forests in general. Increases in temperature and climate extremes, reductions in precipitation, are impacting the functioning of critical ecosystems on Earth. There is a potential for strong positive feedback since Amazonia stores 120 billion tons of carbon in the ecosystem that could be mobilized to the atmosphere. Also, changes in the hydrological cycle and increases in temperatures could enhance methane emissions. Brazil is committed to stop deforestation and reforest 12 million hectares by 2030, which will have important impacts in the Amazonian ecosystem.

报告人:Prof. Paulo Artaxo is the director of the Center for Amazonian Sustainability coordinator at the University of São Paulo (USP). His science agenda involves Amazonian atmospheric studies and urban air pollution. He works extensively at the IPCC, being a lead author of the last three assessments and the IPCC Land Report. He is the author of more than 500 papers and is one of the most cited Brazilian researchers, with an H-index of 113. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the São Paulo Academy of Sciences, and is vice president of the SBPC – Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Sciences.
